The 3 Types of Points — What You Actually Earn
Bank Points (Most Flexible)
Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, Capital One Miles, Citi ThankYou — these are the most powerful because they transfer to multiple airlines and hotels at 1:1. One pool of points can become United, Hyatt, British Airways, Air France, Singapore, and dozens more.
Best cards: Chase Sapphire Reserve (3x travel/dining, airport lounges), Amex Platinum (5x flights, 5 airline transfer partners), Capital One Venture X (2x everything, Priority Pass). These are the "hub" cards of any points strategy.
Transfer to 15–20+ partnersAirline Miles (Program-Specific)
United MileagePlus, Delta SkyMiles, American AAdvantage, Alaska Mileage Plan, Southwest Rapid Rewards — earned via co-branded credit cards and flying. Less flexible than bank points, but necessary for specific sweet spot redemptions.
Alaska Mileage Plan stands out — it books on Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Qatar, JAL, and others at rates lower than those airlines' own programs. American AAdvantage unlocks Iberia, JAL, and British Airways Business Class at steep discounts. Each program has unique sweet spots that bank points enable.
Specific sweet spots per programHotel Points (Stacking Power)
Hyatt World of Hyatt, Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, IHG One Rewards — transfer FROM bank points or earn via hotel co-branded cards. Hyatt offers the best value: 1 Chase UR point = 1 Hyatt point, and Cat 1 Hyatt hotels start at 3,500 points/night (worth $200+ cash).
Stacking: Use airline miles for the flight and hotel points for the stay and suddenly a $4,000 vacation costs $150 in fees and taxes. This is the full CredibleFly model — and it starts with building your credit score to qualify for these cards.
Stack with airline milesTop 10 Cards Ranked by Miles-Earning Power
Each card below is chosen for its sign-up bonus value, earn rate, transfer partners, and practical value. Recommended order: start with a personal card, then add a business card to double your earning on the same spending. Your credit score needs to be 700+ for premium cards — CredibleFly's credit repair program gets you there.
Chase Sapphire Reserve
Sign-up bonus: 60,000 pts (worth $900 in travel). Earn rate: 3x dining worldwide, 3x travel (after $300 credit), 1x everything else. Annual fee: $550, but $300 travel credit makes it effectively $250. Transfers to United, Hyatt, Air France, British Airways, Singapore, and 10 others at 1:1.
Why it matters: The 3x dining category alone is massive — the average American spends $3,000–5,000/year eating out, which means 9,000–15,000 bonus points annually just from restaurants. Priority Pass lounge access worth $429/year included. Best first premium card.
Chase UR → 14 transfer partnersAmex Platinum
Sign-up bonus: 80,000–150,000 pts (watch for elevated offers). Earn rate: 5x on flights booked directly with airlines or via Amex Travel, 1x everything else. Annual fee: $695, but credits include $200 airline fee, $200 hotel, $155 Walmart+, $240 digital, $100 Global Entry. Net cost after credits: ~$0.
Why it matters: Transfers to 21 airline and hotel programs — the widest network of any card. Centurion Lounge access (over 40 locations globally). The 5x on airfare is the best earn rate available for flights. Best for frequent fliers who can use the credits.
Amex MR → 21 transfer partnersCapital One Venture X
Sign-up bonus: 75,000 miles. Earn rate: 2x on all purchases (no categories to track!), 10x on hotels through Capital One, 5x on flights through Capital One. Annual fee: $395, but $300 travel credit + 10,000-pt anniversary bonus effectively make it free. Transfers to 18 airline partners.
Why it matters: The simplest premium card — 2x on everything means you never need to think about categories. Excellent for people who want the benefits without the complexity. Capital One now transfers to Turkish Miles&Smiles (unlocks Lufthansa First), Air Canada Aeroplan, Singapore KrisFlyer, and more.
Cap One → 18 transfer partnersAmex Gold
Sign-up bonus: 60,000 pts. Earn rate: 4x at US restaurants, 4x at US supermarkets (up to $25K/year), 3x on flights. Annual fee: $250, offset by $120 dining credit + $120 Uber Cash. One of the highest everyday earn rates available anywhere.
Why it matters: If you spend significant money on dining and groceries (most Americans do), this card will outperform everything else in raw point accumulation. Pair with Amex Platinum for complete coverage: Gold earns 4x on everyday spend, Platinum earns 5x on flights.
Pair with Amex Platinum for max earnChase Ink Business Preferred
Sign-up bonus: 100,000 pts (worth $1,250 in travel). Earn rate: 3x on travel, shipping, internet, phone, advertising (up to $150K/year), 1x everything else. Annual fee: $95. Transfers to same 14 Chase partners. Points combine with personal Chase cards.
Why it matters: Business cards don't affect your personal credit score the same way (don't appear on personal credit report if paid on time). You can hold BOTH a personal Sapphire Reserve AND the Ink Preferred, effectively doubling your Chase UR accumulation. A self-employed worker, freelancer, or LLC owner qualifies.
Business Elite benefit — separate credit profileBilt Mastercard
Sign-up bonus: None, but $0 annual fee. Earn rate: 1x on rent (up to 100K pts/year — the ONLY card that earns on rent payments with no fee), 2x dining, 3x travel, 1x everything else. Transfers to United, American, Hyatt, Turkish, and more.
Why it matters: Americans pay $15,000–$30,000 in rent per year. At 1x, that's 15,000–30,000 points/year you'd otherwise never earn. No other card pays miles on rent without a fee. First card to get if you rent. Use Rent Day (1st of month) for 3x on all purchases.
Earn on rent — $0 annual feeEvery Major Transfer Partner and What They Unlock
All major bank currencies (Chase, Amex, Capital One, Citi) transfer to airline and hotel programs at 1:1. The key insight: the same airline can be booked at different rates depending on which program you use. Always compare rates across programs before transferring — it's non-reversible.

15 Best Award Redemptions Ranked by Value
A "sweet spot" is any redemption that gives you 3¢ per point or more in value — meaning points that cost you 1¢ to earn are being redeemed at 3x their cost. The best sweet spots deliver 5–15¢ per point. The AI Deal Search above contains full booking instructions for every one of these.

How to Find and Book Award Flights — The Full Process
🛠 Award Search Tools
The best award search tool available — searches 40+ programs simultaneously for Business and First Class space. Shows availability across months so you can find the best dates instantly. Worth every cent.
Shows which of YOUR points can book a specific route and at what cost. Particularly useful when you have points in multiple programs and want to see options side by side.
Free alternative to seats.aero. Good for checking Economy award availability on multiple programs. Slower and less comprehensive, but excellent for a starting point.
Always check the cash price first on Google Flights. This tells you the value of your award redemption — if cash is $300 and you're spending 30K miles, that's only 1¢/point. Look for deals where cash is $3,000+ and miles cost 60K (= 5¢/point).
📋 Step-by-Step Award Booking Process
- Search Google Flights first — find the cash price of your target route. This anchors the value of any award you book.
- Confirm award availability — use seats.aero or the airline's own website. NEVER transfer points until you've confirmed space exists.
- Choose the best program — compare which loyalty program prices the route cheapest. Same flight on United can be booked via United (88K), Avianca (67K), or Aeroplan (80K). Always compare.
- Transfer points — transfers are usually instant (Chase) or take 1–3 days (Amex, Capital One). They are non-reversible. Transfer exactly the amount you need plus a small buffer.
- Book immediately — award space can disappear within hours. After transferring, book right away at the airline website or call the mileage desk.
- Screenshot everything — save your booking confirmation, PNR number, and the miles used. Discrepancies happen and you need proof.
- Check seat maps — after booking, select your seat immediately via the airline's website. Business and First Class seat selection often requires calling the airline.
⚠️ Critical Rule: NEVER transfer points to a program without first confirming award availability in that specific program. Availability shown in one program does NOT guarantee it in another. Always verify before transferring.
Stacking: How to Earn 5–10x Points on the Same Dollar
Stacking means earning points from multiple sources on the same transaction. A single $200 hotel stay can earn points from the hotel program, your credit card, a shopping portal, a dining program, and a credit card offer simultaneously. Done right, you can earn 15–20 points per dollar — making your next trip free in months instead of years.
Shopping Portals
Shop through airline or bank portals before buying anything online and earn bonus points. Examples: United Shopping, Chase Offers, American AAdvantage eShopping. Stack on top of your credit card earn. Sites like cashbackmonitor.com compare portal rates across all programs — find the highest payer instantly.
+2–15 pts/dollarDining Programs
Enroll your credit card in airline dining programs (United MileagePlus Dining, American AAdvantage Dining) and earn bonus miles every time you eat at participating restaurants — in addition to your credit card rewards. Completely free to join and passive once enrolled. Worth 500–1,000 miles per month for regular diners.
+3–5 pts/dollar at restaurantsCredit Card Offers
Chase and Amex both offer "targeted offers" in your online account — cash back or bonus points for spending at specific merchants. Check your account weekly for offers like "Spend $100 at Target, get 1,000 bonus points." These stack on top of regular earning. Amex Offers and Chase Offers alone can generate 10,000–30,000 bonus points per year for the diligent cardholder.
10K–30K pts/year bonus🌍 Real Example: $6,000 Europe Trip for $87 Out of Pocket
Business Credit Cards — Double Your Earning Power
Business credit cards operate on a separate credit profile from your personal cards. This means you can hold Chase Sapphire Reserve AND Chase Ink Business Preferred simultaneously — doubling your welcome bonus, doubling your category earning, and keeping personal and business spending separate for tax purposes. Any self-employed person, freelancer, LLC owner, or side-hustle qualifies. CredibleFly's Business Elite plan sets up your full business credit profile.
